1.2.D4

Fendt 1.2.D4 – A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7): Injector valve (Chip) faulty / High current output injector B (High)

Issue description

Internal hardware failure within the engine control unit. The internal driver chip inside the ECU that supplies high current to the fuel injector(s) on bank B has failed or detected a critical internal fault.

Check the cause

  1. Connect Fendt SERDIA diagnostic software and attempt to clear the error (FC:009E) to rule out transient voltage spikes triggering a false chip fault

  2. Inspect the engine wiring harness between the A051 ECU and the fuel injectors for chafed wires or short circuits to ground/power (a dead short can overload the ECU driver chip)

  3. Ohm test the fuel injectors to ensure an internally shorted injector coil did not cause the ECU chip failure

Repair steps

  1. Clear fault code

Connect the SERDIA diagnostic tool and attempt to clear the fault code.

  2. Determine ECU replacement

If the fault code cannot be deleted, the official repair procedure dictates that the engine control unit must be replaced.

  3. Disconnect battery

    Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

  4. Unplug ECU connectors

Unplug the main harness connectors from the A051 EDC 7 control unit (note: on most models except the 300/400 series, the ECU is cooled by the fuel return system, so fuel lines may need to be disconnected and capped).

  5. Replace ECU

Remove the faulty ECU and install the replacement unit.

  6. Program new ECU

The new A051 ECU must undergo EOL (End of Line) programming using FENDIAS/SERDIA to flash the correct engine data record and parameters specific to the tractor's chassis number.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Motorsteuergerät

Specific part numbers vary heavily based on the exact Deutz engine model and chassis number. You must order the replacement A051 ECU using the tractor's specific chassis number.
