18.1.37

Fendt 18.1.37 – Auto-Guide / VarioGuide system: Y087 - Steering valve block, Autoguide (or VarioGuide steering valve)

Issue description

The code indicates an internal error regarding the FLASH, EEPROM, and software for the steering valve. It essentially means there is an unidentified fault or memory/software corruption within the electronic controller of the Y087 steering valve.

Applies to these machines

  • 922 Vario COM III
  • 924 Vario COM III
  • 927 Vario COM III
  • 930 Vario COM III
  • 933 Vario COM III
  • 936 Vario COM III
  • Fendt 300 Vario series
  • Fendt 400 Vario series
  • Fendt 700 Vario series
  • Fendt 800 Vario series
  • Fendt 900 Vario series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring of the position sensor in the steering valve to ensure it is not broken or short-circuited

  2. Test the total resistance of the CAN bus (should read 60 Ohms; 120 Ohms indicates a wiring break or defective terminating resistor)

  3. Check the voltage level of CAN High and CAN Low (0 VDC indicates an earth connection; 4 VDC and higher indicates a short circuit to positive)

  4. Verify the supply voltage (positive and earth) to the bus consumers and the Y087 valve

  5. Check if the Auto-Guide software/firmware needs to be reflashed or updated via the FENDIAS diagnostic tool

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Wiring Issues

If the diagnostic checks reveal a short or break in the CAN bus or sensor wiring to the Y087 valve, repair the damaged harness section.

  2. Software Reflash

If the wiring is intact, attempt to reflash the steering valve software using dealer-level diagnostic equipment, as the EEPROM/FLASH memory has registered an error.

  3. Replace the Steering Valve/Head

If the software cannot be recovered or the internal EEPROM is permanently damaged, the steering valve (or just the electronic steering head, depending on the exact valve revision) must be replaced.

  4. Calibration

After replacing the valve or reflashing the software, you must calibrate the VarioGuide steering valve. This is done using calibration code 2403 in the tractor's terminal. Warning: Ensure the area around the front wheels is clear during calibration, as there is a hazard from the automatic deflection of the wheels.
