Fendt 18.1.6B – ECU A050: Actuator cannot reach neutral

The system detects that the steering actuator is failing to return to its neutral position. This is typically caused by a mechanical fault on the steering actuator or a failure of the position sensor inside the steering valve.

   Inspect the steering actuator and front axle steering cylinder for physical damage, debris, or mechanical binding that would prevent the valve from returning to neutral.

   Check the wiring harness to the Y087 steering valve block (specifically separation point X1588) for broken wires or short circuits at the position sensor.

   Ensure the steering valve is receiving proper supply voltage (related codes indicate faults if voltage is > 32V or < 10V).

   Verify that the steering valve status messages are being received over the transmission CAN bus.

   Access the Valve

   Locate the Y087 steering valve block on the right side of the transmission. You may need to remove the right rear wheel and access panel to reach it.

   Relieve Hydraulic Pressure

   Ensure the engine is off and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the steering and suspension systems before disconnecting any lines.

   Test the Position Sensor

   Test the position sensor on the steering valve. If the sensor is faulty or the actuator is mechanically jammed, the steering valve block (or steering head) must be replaced.

   Replace the Component

   Disconnect the hydraulic lines and the X1588 electrical connector. Swap in the new steering valve block.

   Recalibrate the System

   After replacing the valve or repairing the mechanical fault, the steering valve must be recalibrated. Use the Fendt terminal to initiate Calibration Code '2403' (Steering valve calibration).

   Clear Codes and Test

   Clear the 18.1.6B fault code from the memory and perform a test drive to ensure the actuator returns to neutral properly.
