Fendt 18.1.6C – A050 - ECU (Basic Control Unit): Actuator not in neutral during "RUNUP"

During system initialization (switch-on or "runup"), the steering valve actuator is failing to return to its neutral position. This is typically caused by a mechanical fault (binding/sticking) within the steering actuator itself or a failure of the internal position sensor monitoring the actuator.

   Check the electrical supply lines to the Y087 steering valve block for breaks, shorts, or voltage drops (faults will trigger if voltage is > 32V or < 10V)

   Verify the CAN bus communication on the transmission bus (CAN High/CAN Low). Check the total resistance of the passive bus (should be 60 Ohms; 120 Ohms indicates a wiring break or defective terminating resistor)

   Check the steering actuator for physical binding or debris that might prevent it from returning to the neutral position

   Attempt to recalibrate the steering system via the tractor terminal to rule out software/memory drift (Run Calibration Code 2401 for Steering angle sensor and 2403 for VarioGuide steering valve)

   Depressurize and Prep

   Turn off the tractor, engage the parking brake, and ensure the hydraulic steering system is fully depressurized.

   Access the Valve Block

   On most heavy Vario models (like the 900 series), the Y087 steering valve block is located on the right side of the transmission. You will need to remove the right rear wheel and the side panel to gain clear access.

   Inspect Connections

   Disconnect the wiring harness at the Y087 separation points (X1588 and X1589). Inspect the pins for corrosion or pushed-out terminals.

   Replace the Valve Block

   If the actuator is mechanically seized or the internal position sensor has failed (and wiring is confirmed good), the Y087 steering valve block must be replaced. Disconnect the hydraulic lines, cap them immediately to prevent contamination, and unbolt the manifold.

   Install New Valve

   Install the replacement steering valve block. Note: Ensure the internal plugs and orifices match the original configuration exactly, as incorrect orifice placement can permanently damage the steering pump.

   Bleed and Calibrate

   Reconnect hydraulic lines and electrical connectors. Bleed the steering hydraulic circuit.

   Software Calibration

   Turn the ignition on and clear the fault codes. You must perform EOL (End of Line) programming and run Calibration Code 2403 (VarioGuide steering valve) and Code 2401 (Steering angle sensor) for the new valve to be recognized and function properly.
