1E.1.51

Fendt 1E.1.51 – A051 - Engine Control Unit (ECU): B086 - Rail pressure sensor; Pressure-limiting valve, mechanical rail pressure.

Issue description

This code indicates a failure in the common rail fuel system where the mechanical rail pressure limiting valve (PLV) fails to open, or the rail pressure control valve is operating outside its target range. The engine is automatically switched off to prevent catastrophic fuel system damage and will stop in approximately 5 minutes.

Check the cause

  1. Check for related fault code 1E.1.52 (B086 - Rail pressure sensor cable break or short circuit) to rule out electrical issues

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the B086 Rail Pressure Sensor for chafing, corrosion, or short circuits

  3. Check the low-pressure fuel system (B087 sensor reading approx. 6 bar) and ensure fuel filters are not restricted, as starvation can cause erratic high-pressure readings

  4. Monitor live data using the Fendt SERDIA diagnostic tool to compare actual rail pressure via the B086 sensor against the target rail pressure

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Turn off the diesel engine and wait at least 30 seconds before starting any work on the fuel system. The common rail system operates at extremely high pressures (up to 1800 bar) which can cause fatal injection injuries if opened while pressurized.

  2. Access the Fuel Rail

Locate the common fuel rail on the engine block. The B086 Rail Pressure Sensor is typically threaded into one end of the rail, and the mechanical Pressure-Limiting Valve is threaded into the other.

  3. Replace the Faulty Component

If diagnostics point to a sensor failure (erratic/implausible voltage), replace the B086 Rail Pressure Sensor. If the sensor is accurate but the valve physically failed to open during an overpressure event, replace the Mechanical Pressure-Limiting Valve.

  4. Torque to Spec

Install the new sensor or valve and torque strictly to the OEM Deutz/MAN engine specifications to prevent high-pressure leaks.

  5. Clear Faults

Connect the SERDIA diagnostic software and clear the stored fault codes (FC:00D0, 00EC).

  6. Test Run

Start the tractor, check for leaks, and verify that the engine does not shut down after the 5-minute threshold.
