Fendt 1E.1.60 – A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7) / EMR3: Misfire detected in multiple cylinders

Issue description

Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying single-cylinder misfire codes (e.g., 1E.1.61, 1E.1.62) using the SERDIA diagnostic tool to pinpoint which specific cylinders are failing.

  2. Verify fuel supply pressure to rule out a clogged fuel filter, a failing lift pump, or air in the fuel system starving multiple injectors.

  3. Inspect the injector wiring harness for chafing, cable breaks, or short circuits. Focus on Socket D2.3 on the EDC7 (EMR3) ECU, which is the dedicated connection for the fuel measuring unit and injectors.

  4. Perform a mechanical cylinder compression test to rule out internal engine wear (valves, piston rings, head gasket).

  5. Perform a return flow (leak-off) test on the injectors to identify if multiple injectors are bypassing too much fuel, which drops rail pressure and causes misfires.

Repair steps

  1. Prepare for repair

    Disconnect the tractor battery. Thoroughly clean the valve cover and the area around the injectors to prevent dirt from falling into the engine cylinders.

  2. Remove high-pressure lines

    Disconnect the electrical connectors from the injectors. Remove the high-pressure fuel lines connecting the common rail to the injectors. OEM guidelines recommend replacing high-pressure lines once they have been removed to ensure proper sealing.

  3. Extract injectors

    Remove the injector hold-down clamps/bolts. Carefully pull the injector straight out. If the injector is stuck due to carbon buildup, use an appropriate slide hammer or injector puller tool.

  4. Clean injector bore

    Ensure the old copper sealing washer is removed from the bottom of the injector bore (it sometimes gets left behind). Clean the bore thoroughly.

  5. Install new injectors

    Install the new injector equipped with a new copper sealing washer and new O-rings.

  6. Torque and reconnect

    Reinstall the hold-down clamps and torque the bolts to the exact Deutz/Fendt specification for your specific engine model. Reconnect the high-pressure lines and wiring harness.

  7. Bleed fuel system

    Prime and bleed the fuel system to remove any trapped air.

  8. Code new injectors to ECU

    Using the SERDIA diagnostic software, enter the IMA code (calibration code) printed on the top of each new injector into the EDC7 ECU. This tells the ECU the exact flow characteristics of the new injectors so it can adjust the injection pulse accordingly.
