Fendt 1E.1.62 – A051 - ECU, Engine Control Unit (EDC 7): Misfiring on cylinder 2

The engine control unit has detected a misfire condition specifically in cylinder 2 of the engine. This can be caused by a lack of fuel, loss of compression, or an electrical fault in the injector circuit.

   Identify Cylinder 2: Note that on these Deutz engines, Cylinder 1 is located on the flywheel side. Count accordingly to locate cylinder 2.

   Electrical & Wiring Inspection: Check the wiring harness and connectors between the cylinder 2 fuel injector and the A051 (EDC 7) control unit for breaks, corrosion, or short circuits.

   Fuel System Check: Inspect the cylinder 2 injector for mechanical failure or clogging.

   Mechanical Engine Tests: If the injector and wiring are sound, perform an engine compression test and check the inlet manifolds for leaks to rule out head gasket failures or valve problems.

   Clear Codes: The OEM manual notes that after correcting the physical fault, the error must be deleted in the engine control unit using the SERDIA diagnostic software (Clear fault FC:0027).

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Injector

   Remove necessary engine covers to access the Deutz Common Rail fuel injectors.

   Test/Replace Injector

   Swap the cylinder 2 injector with another cylinder (e.g., cylinder 3). Reassemble, clear the code via SERDIA, and run the engine. If the misfire code moves to the new cylinder (e.g., 1E.1.63 for cylinder 3), the injector is faulty and must be replaced.

   Check ECU (If problem persists)

   If the wiring and injector are perfectly fine but the misfire remains on cylinder 2, the injector driver inside the Bosch EDC 7 unit may have failed. The ECU will need to be removed and sent to a specialist for cloning/repair, or replaced entirely.

   Reassembly and Calibration

   Install the new parts, bleed the common rail fuel system if necessary, and use the SERDIA tool to clear the stored 1E.1.62 / FC:0027 codes.
