1E.1.63

Fendt 1E.1.63 – A051 - Engine Control Unit (ECU): A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7). Misfiring on cylinder 3.

Issue description

The engine control module has detected a misfire event specifically isolated to engine cylinder number 3. The ECU monitors crankshaft acceleration, and a lack of expected acceleration during cylinder 3's power stroke triggers this code.

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness and connectors between the EDC 7 ECU and the cylinder 3 fuel injector for short circuits, cable breaks, or corrosion

  2. Test the cylinder 3 fuel injector for electrical faults or mechanical clogging

  3. Perform a cylinder balance test and a mechanical compression test on cylinder 3 to rule out internal engine damage (e.g., burnt valves, damaged piston rings, or head gasket leaks)

  4. Verify overall fuel system health, including fuel delivery pressure and fuel quality

  5. Reset the ECU by switching the ignition off, waiting for the ECU to power down completely, and switching it back on to see if the error remains active

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Electrical/Fuel Issues

Based on the diagnostic results, repair any broken wires in the injector harness or replace the faulty cylinder 3 fuel injector.

  2. Address Mechanical Failures

If compression is low, perform the necessary heavy engine repairs (valve job, piston ring replacement, etc.).

  3. ECU Replacement (If necessary)

If the wiring, injector, and engine compression are all verified as good, the Bosch EDC 7 ECU itself may have a burnt-out injector driver circuit (a known failure point for EDC7UC31 modules). The ECU will need to be repaired, cloned, or replaced.

  4. Clear the Fault Code

Canceling the fault code on the tractor's terminal does not permanently delete it from the engine ECU. You must connect a laptop with SERDIA (the Deutz/Fendt diagnostic software) to properly clear the internal EDC 7 error memory (Internal Failure Code: FC:0028).
