Fendt 1E.1.70 – A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7): Start of injection period in cylinder 1 outside setpoint range or absent

The engine control unit has detected that the fuel injector for cylinder 1 is not firing at the correct time, or the injection event is completely missing. This typically points to a mechanical failure of the injector, a wiring issue to that specific injector, or a loss of compression/timing synchronization specific to that cylinder.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector from the A051 (EDC 7) module to the cylinder 1 fuel injector for chafing, heat damage, or loose pins (a short in the whole bank would throw a different code).

   Verify the high-pressure fuel circuit is operating correctly by checking the metering unit (Y091) and rail pressure sensor (B086) for broader pressure drops.

   Connect the SERDIA diagnostic tool and run a cylinder contribution test or injector leak-off test to verify if the cylinder 1 injector is mechanically failing.

   Perform a compression test on cylinder 1 to ensure adequate compression, as severe mechanical issues can mimic injection timing faults.

   Isolate the Battery

   Disconnect the tractor's battery before working on the high-voltage common rail injection system.

   Access the Injector

   Remove the engine covers and valve cover (if required by the specific Deutz TCD engine variant) to access the cylinder 1 fuel injector.

   Replace the Injector

   If wiring tested good but the injector failed the contribution/leak-off test, remove the high-pressure fuel line and the injector hold-down clamp. Extract the faulty injector.

   Clean and Prep

   Thoroughly clean the injector bore. Always install a new copper sealing washer and new O-rings (do not reuse old seals).

   Install New Injector

   Seat the new injector, torque the hold-down clamp to OEM Deutz specifications, and install a new high-pressure delivery pipe (highly recommended for common rail systems to prevent leaks).

   Bleed the System

   Prime the low-pressure fuel system.

   Clear Faults

   Reconnect the battery. Connect the SERDIA diagnostic tool and delete error code FC:0018 (the internal SERDIA code for 1E.1.70).

   Start the tractor, check for fuel leaks, and verify that the misfire/timing code does not return.
