Fendt 1E.1.78 – A051 - ECU, Engine Control Unit (EDC 7): Short circuit in cylinder bank 1 injector valves

The engine control unit initiates a "Cylinder switch-off" (or cylinder shut-off) to protect the engine and fuel system components from electrical damage.

   Harness Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness routing from the A051 (EDC 7) module to the fuel injectors on cylinder bank 1. Look for chafed insulation, melted wires, or pinch points causing a short to ground or short to voltage.

   Injector Resistance Test: Disconnect the electrical connectors at the injectors for bank 1. Measure the resistance across the injector solenoid pins to check for an internal short circuit within the injector itself.

   ECU Pin Check: Disconnect the main harness at the A051 EDC 7 module and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or bridging that could simulate a short circuit.

   Isolate the Short

   Based on the diagnostic checks, determine if the short is in the wiring harness or internal to a specific fuel injector.

   Repair/Replace

   If the harness is damaged, repair the wiring or replace the injector harness section. If an injector is internally shorted, depressurize the fuel system and replace the faulty injector.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect all wiring harnesses securely to the injectors and the A051 ECU.

   Clear Faults

   The OEM documentation explicitly notes that this fault requires the use of the SERDIA diagnostic software to clear the error. Connect the SERDIA tool and execute the "delete error" / "clear fault" command for FC:0099.

   Verify

   Start the tractor and verify that the cylinder shut-off condition is resolved and full engine power is restored.
