Fendt 1E.1.7D – A051 - Engine Control Unit (EDC 7): Short circuit or cable break in the wiring to injector valve 2

Injection failure. The ECU will shut off the affected cylinder to protect the engine, resulting in a noticeable misfire, rough idle, and loss of power.

   Visually inspect the injector wiring harness and the EDC control unit plug for engine oil contamination, which frequently causes short circuits.

   Perform a wiring harness continuity test between the EDC7 control unit and the injector wiring harness. Check for discontinuity, short-circuits to ground, or short-circuits to the battery, paying special attention to lines and connections under the valve cover.

   Test the injector coil resistance by disconnecting the electrical connector at Injector 2 and probing the two terminals with a multimeter. An infinite (open circuit) or zero (short circuit) reading indicates a failed internal solenoid coil.

   Use the SERDIA or MAN-cats diagnostic software to check injector plausibility and perform a run-up test (TRUP) to isolate whether the fault is strictly on cylinder 2's path.

   Resolve Wiring/Connector Issues

   If oil is found in the harness or ECU connector, thoroughly clean the connectors with contact cleaner. If the harness has a physical break or melted insulation causing a short, repair or replace the affected section of the injector wiring harness.

   Replace the Injector (if faulty)

   If the multimeter test proves the injector coil is dead, the injector must be replaced. Remove the high-pressure fuel line for cylinder 2, seal the connection to the common rail to prevent contamination, and remove the faulty injector. Install the new unit, ensuring you use a new copper sealing washer/insert.

   Clear Fault Codes

   Reconnect all wiring and use the Fendt SERDIA diagnostic tool to delete the error (FC:00A1, 00A2) from the A051 ECU memory.
