Fendt 1E.1.80 – A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7): Short circuit or break in wiring to injector valve 5

Issue description

The engine control unit detects an open circuit (break) or a short circuit in the electrical circuit for the cylinder 5 fuel injector, resulting in an injection failure (cylinder switch-off/misfiring), loss of power, and rough engine operation.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the EDC 7 ECU (Connector A) to the cylinder 5 injector for chafed wires, melted insulation, or breaks.

  2. Disconnect the plug at injector 5 and check for oil ingress, water ingress, or bent/corroded pins.

  3. Probe the two terminals on the injector solenoid coil with a multimeter set to Ohms (Ω). A reading of zero indicates a short circuit inside the injector, while an infinite reading indicates an open circuit (dead solenoid). Expected range is typically 0.4–2.0 ohms.

  4. If the injector tests fine, check the continuity of the wiring from the injector plug back to the EDC 7 ECU pins to isolate a broken wire.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

  2. Repair Wiring

    If the diagnostic tests revealed a broken or shorted wire, splice and repair the damaged section of the harness. If the connector plug is heavily damaged or oil-soaked, splice in a new injector pigtail connector or an EDC7 repair harness.

  3. Replace Injector

    Clean the area around injector 5 to prevent debris from falling into the cylinder. Use a wrench to loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel lines connected to the injector. Remove the injector retainer bow/nut and carefully pull the faulty injector from the cylinder head. Install the new injector using a new sealing washer and O-ring. Reinstall the retainer bow/nut and torque to OEM specifications. Reconnect the fuel lines and tighten the nuts, then reconnect the electrical connector to the injector.

  4. Clear Codes & Test

    Reconnect the battery. Use the Fendt SERDIA diagnostic software to delete the stored fault codes (FC:00A7, 00A8) from the A051 module. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks and smooth operation.
