Fendt 1E.1.81 – A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7): Short circuit or break in wiring to injector valve 6.

Issue description

The engine control unit has detected an electrical fault (either an open circuit/break or a short circuit) in the circuit controlling the #6 cylinder fuel injector. This will typically result in a cylinder misfire, rough running, and an injection failure on that specific cylinder.

Check the cause

  1. Connect the Fendt SERDIA diagnostic tool to confirm the active fault (FC:00A9 or 00AA)

  2. Inspect the wiring harness running from the EDC 7 module to the #6 injector for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires

  3. Disconnect the plug at injector #6 and at the EDC 7 to check for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture ingress

  4. Measure the resistance across the pins of injector #6 and compare to a known good injector (e.g., #5) to check for internal failure

  5. Measure the continuity of the two wires from the injector connector back to the EDC 7 harness connector to rule out a broken wire

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Clean the area around the valve cover and injector #6 thoroughly to prevent debris from entering the engine.

  2. Remove High-Pressure Lines

    Loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel line connecting the common rail to injector #6. Cap the rail and injector ports immediately to prevent contamination.

  3. Remove Injector

    Remove the hold-down clamp/bracket securing the injector. Carefully pull the injector out of the cylinder head.

  4. Inspect/Replace Injector Sleeve (If necessary)

    If the sleeve is damaged or leaking coolant, use a specialized sleeve removal tool (e.g., OEM ref 88800198) to extract it. Coat the new sleeve tap with multi-purpose grease and press it in.

  5. Install New Injector

    Seat the new injector with a new sealing washer.

  6. Torque Specifications

    Install the clamping claw/bracket. For the Deutz TCD 2013 L6 4V (1400 bar fuel system), torque the hold-down bolt to 23 Nm.

  7. Reassembly

    Reinstall the high-pressure fuel line. Reconnect the electrical harness to the injector.

  8. System Bleed & Clear Codes

    The common rail system may require priming. Once the engine is running, use the SERDIA diagnostic tool to delete the 1E.1.81 error code and verify the cylinder is firing correctly.
