1E.1.B1

Fendt 1E.1.B1 – A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7): CAN message, no control function mode

Issue description

The tractor's CAN bus network is missing a critical communication message regarding the engine's control function mode. This typically points to a communication breakdown, wiring issue, or software/hardware fault within the engine control module.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the CAN bus communication lines between the A051 (EDC 7) engine control unit and the A002 (enhanced control) / A050 (basic control) units (refer to the 'EDC control' circuit diagram Sheet 21 or Sheet 36).

  2. Check the main harness connectors at the A051 ECU for water ingress, oil contamination, bent pins, or corrosion.

  3. Verify if the ECU has lost its parameterization (e.g., a checksum error or missing EOL programming).

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Connect a laptop with FENDIAS or SERDIA (Deutz/Bosch diagnostic software) to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Verify Code

Read the fault memory to confirm the presence of code 1E.1.B1 (Internal FC:005F).

  3. Perform Wiring Repairs

If the diagnostic checks revealed high resistance, shorts, or breaks in the CAN wiring harness leading to the A051 ECU, repair or replace the affected wiring sections.

  4. ECU Reprogramming/Replacement

If the wiring is intact, the EDC 7 module itself may have suffered an internal failure or software corruption. Attempt an EOL (End of Line) reprogramming. If the unit will not take the programming, the A051 ECU must be removed and either sent to a specialist for repair/cloning or replaced entirely.

  5. Clear Faults

Once the physical repair or module replacement is complete, use the SERDIA software to explicitly delete the error code (FC:005F) from the A051 memory. (Note: Canceling the code on the tractor's dashboard terminal only hides it; it must be cleared from the EDC via software).

  6. Test Run

Restart the tractor and verify that the engine control functions operate normally and the code does not return.
