1E.1.B5

Fendt 1E.1.B5 – A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7): No engine temperature CAN message

Issue description

The engine control unit is not receiving the expected temperature data signal over the CAN bus network from the engine coolant temperature sensor (B089).

Applies to these machines

  • 309 Vario COM III
  • 310 Vario COM III
  • 311 Vario COM III
  • 312 Vario COM III
  • 922 Vario COM III
  • 924 Vario COM III
  • 927 Vario COM III
  • 930 Vario COM III
  • 933 Vario COM III
  • 936 Vario COM III
  • Fendt 300 Vario (COM III)
  • Fendt 400 Vario (COM III)
  • Fendt 700 Vario (COM III)
  • Fendt 800 Vario (COM III)
  • Fendt 900 Vario (COM III)

Check the cause

  1. Locate the engine coolant temperature sensor (B089) on the engine block and check the 2-pin connector for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness between the temperature sensor and the A051 (EDC 7) control unit for cable breaks, chafing, or short circuits.

  3. Verify the integrity of the CAN bus lines communicating with the EDC 7 module, as the fault specifically notes a missing CAN message.

  4. Connect the Fendt SERDIA diagnostic software (internal FC: 0071) and verify live data for the coolant temperature to see if it reads out of bounds (e.g., -40°C or an implausibly high value).

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Repair wiring harness

If the wiring harness is damaged, repair the broken wires or replace the damaged connector pigtail.

  3. Remove faulty sensor

If the wiring tests good (continuity is present and there are no shorts to ground), remove the faulty engine temperature sensor. Note: Be prepared to catch a small amount of escaping coolant.

  4. Install new sensor

Install the new engine temperature sensor and torque to the manufacturer's specification.

  5. Reconnect components

Reconnect the sensor harness and reconnect the battery.

  6. Clear fault code

Connect the SERDIA diagnostic tool and perform the 'delete error' (clear fault) procedure for FC:0071.

  7. Verify repair

Run the tractor and verify that the engine temperature registers correctly on the instrument cluster and that the fault code does not return.
