Issue description

This code indicates a communication failure on the tractor's Controller Area Network (CAN bus). Check the cause

  1. Check the CAN bus wiring harness between the A051 (Engine Control Unit) and the A002 (Enhanced Control Unit) / A050 (Basic Control Unit). Look for bent, broken, or corroded pins on the CAN bus connectors at the engine control unit.

  2. Test for a short circuit on the CAN bus lines between the engine control unit and the tractor's ID module.

  3. Verify that the A051 ECU is receiving proper 12V/24V supply voltage and has a solid ground connection. A loss of power to the ECU will cause it to drop off the CAN bus.

  4. Connect the Fendt SERDIA / FENDIAS diagnostic tool. Check the 'EDC control' circuit diagram (commonly Sheet 21 or 28 depending on the model) to trace the exact pinouts. Attempt to clear the fault (FC:0079) to see if it is an active or stored historical code.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect power

    Disconnect the tractor's battery before working on the engine management wiring.

  2. Repair wiring

    If the diagnostic checks reveal damaged wiring or corroded connector pins, repair the harness or replace the pigtail connector.

  3. Replace the ECU

    If the wiring is fully intact, power/ground are present, and the ECU still fails to communicate, the A051 EDC 7 unit has internally failed and must be replaced or sent out for a cloning/repair service.

  4. Perform EOL programming

    If a new or replacement A051 ECU is installed, perform EOL (End of Line) programming using the SERDIA diagnostic software to write the correct engine parameters, tractor configuration, and calibration codes to the module.

  5. Clear codes and test

    Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use the SERDIA tool to clear the 1E.1.B9 fault code. Test run the tractor to ensure communication is restored and the tractor exits emergency/limp mode.
