Fendt 1E.1.BA – A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7): CAN-message missing

Issue description

Communication failure on the tractor's Controller Area Network (CAN bus) where expected data packets or messages from the engine control module are not being broadcast to or received by the rest of the tractor's electronic system, resulting in restricted operating mode (limp mode) or limited engine torque.

Check the cause

  1. Consult the Fendt EDC engine control wiring diagrams (Sheet 21 or Sheet 36)

  2. Test the CAN High and CAN Low communication lines between the A051 (EDC 7) and the A002 (Enhanced Control Unit) for continuity, shorts to ground, or breaks

  3. Ensure the A051 module is receiving proper operating voltage from the A013 microfuse circuit board

  4. Verify that peripheral sensors communicating with the EDC 7, such as the B055 foot throttle sensor and the K065 starter relay circuit, are not shorting out the module

  5. Connect the Fendt SERDIA diagnostic tool to check if the EDC 7 has lost its EOL programming or if a checksum error is present

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

    Plug the Fendt SERDIA diagnostic interface into the tractor.

  2. Read and Clear

    Read the active faults and attempt to clear fault FC:007A (1E.1.BA) using SERDIA first to rule out a transient software glitch.

  3. Inspect Connectors

    Disconnect the main harnesses at the A051 EDC 7 module. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress (as the ECU is cooled by the fuel return system on some models), or fretting. Clean and reseat the connectors.

  4. Perform EOL Programming

    If the wiring is intact but the CAN message remains missing, the EDC 7 may have suffered data corruption. Use SERDIA to perform an EOL (End of Line) reprogramming with a new data record for the specific engine configuration.

  5. Replace Module

    If the module will not accept EOL programming, fails to broadcast on the CAN bus, and all wiring/power checks pass, the A051 EDC 7 module has suffered an internal hardware failure and must be replaced.
