1E.1.BF

Fendt 1E.1.BF – A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7): CAN-message missing

Issue description

The tractor's main communication network (CAN bus) has lost communication with the engine control unit, or expected data packets from the engine controller are not being received by the rest of the tractor's network.

Applies to these machines

  • 310 Vario COM III
  • 311 Vario COM III
  • 312 Vario COM III
  • 922 Vario COM III
  • 924 Vario COM III

  • FENDT 900 Vario COM III

Check the cause

  1. Refer to the 'EDC engine control' circuit diagram (Sheet 21 or Sheet 28) to trace the CAN bus lines

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and the main connector at the A051 (EDC 7) module for corrosion, backed-out pins, or wire chafing that could interrupt the CAN signal

  3. Connect the Fendt SERDIA diagnostic software to verify if the fault is currently active or stored

Repair steps

  1. Isolate the Fault

Use a multimeter or oscilloscope to test the CAN High and CAN Low wires at the EDC 7 connector. Verify that the module is receiving proper operating voltage and ground.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the CAN bus wires are broken or the connector is damaged, repair the harness.

  3. Replace or Repair the ECU

If the wiring, power, and grounds are fully intact but the CAN message is still missing, the EDC 7 control unit has likely suffered an internal hardware failure. The unit must be removed and either sent to a specialized mechatronics facility for internal repair/cloning, or replaced with a new unit.

  4. Clear Faults and Reprogram

Once the repaired or replacement EDC 7 is installed, connect the SERDIA diagnostic tool. Clear the internal fault code (identified in SERDIA as FC:007F).

  5. EOL Programming

If a new or cloned ECU is installed, End-of-Line (EOL) programming may be necessary to ensure the Tractor Management System (TMS) and the A050 basic control unit recognize the engine configuration.
