Fendt 1E.1.C4 – A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7): A051 - ECU, engine control unit (EDC 7). CAN bus C, break in wiring or short circuit.

Issue description

Communication failure on the tractor's CAN bus C network, specifically a physical cable break or a short circuit preventing the engine control unit from communicating properly with the rest of the tractor's enhanced control systems.

Check the cause

  1. Visually and electrically inspect the wiring harness for CAN bus C for any cable breaks or short circuits.

  2. Check the main multi-pin connectors at the A051 Engine Control Unit (EDC 7) and the A002 Enhanced Control Unit for corrosion, backed-out pins, or moisture.

  3. Consult the Fendt OEM circuit diagram specifically for 'EDC engine control' (often listed as Sheet 21, 28, or 33 depending on the model) to trace the CAN bus C lines.

  4. Connect the FENDIAS (SERDIA) diagnostic software to read the internal sub-code, which should display as FC:00C2.

Repair steps

  1. Isolate the Battery

    Disconnect the tractor's battery before unplugging the EDC 7 module to prevent voltage spikes.

  2. Repair the Harness

    If a broken wire, chafed insulation, or short to ground/power is found on the CAN bus C lines between the A051 and A002 modules, repair the wiring using OEM-approved splicing methods or replace the affected harness section.

  3. Module Testing/Replacement

    If the wiring tests perfectly (proper continuity and no shorts), the CAN transceiver inside the A051 EDC 7 unit itself may have failed. The unit will need to be sent out for mechatronic repair or replaced.

  4. Clear Faults

    Reconnect the battery and use the SERDIA / FENDIAS diagnostic tool to execute a 'delete error' command for FC:00C2.

  5. Test Drive

    Verify that the tractor regains full Tractor Management System (TMS) functionality and is no longer restricted to manual foot-throttle-only operation.
