Fendt 1E.1.D9 – A051 - ECU, Engine Control Unit (EDC 7): Wrong voltage of internal 5V reference source 3

Issue description

The engine control unit generates a 5-volt reference signal to power various engine sensors. This fault indicates that the voltage on the 'Reference Source 3' circuit is either too high, too low, or shorted. In Fendt applications, this specific 5V reference circuit supplies power to the B055 foot throttle sensor and B086 rail pressure sensor.

Check the cause

  1. Sensor Isolation Test: Disconnect the B055 (Foot throttle sensor) and B086 (Rail pressure sensor) one at a time. If the 5V reference voltage returns to normal at the connector after unplugging one of them, that specific sensor has an internal short and is the culprit.

  2. Wiring Harness Inspection: Check the wiring harness between the A051 (EDC 7) ECU and sensors B055 and B086. Look for cable breaks, chafing causing a short to ground, or a short to battery voltage.

  3. Operating Voltage Check: Verify that the main operating voltage supplied to the A051 ECU is within the correct range (not too high or too low).

  4. ECU Verification: If the sensors and wiring harness test perfectly fine, the internal 5V driver inside the A051 ECU is likely defective.

Repair steps

  1. Power down ECU

    Turn off the ignition and wait for the ECU to fully power down and save its data before disconnecting any components.

  2. Repair or replace wiring harness

    If a wiring fault is found: Repair or replace the damaged section of the engine wiring harness leading to the B055 or B086 sensors.

  3. Replace defective sensor

    If a sensor is shorted: Replace the defective B055 foot throttle sensor or B086 rail pressure sensor.

  4. Replace Engine Control Unit

    If the ECU is defective: Replace the A051 (EDC 7) Engine Control Unit. Note: A replacement EDC7 cannot simply be plugged in; it must undergo EOL (End of Line) programming via FENDIAS/SERDIA or have its EEPROM data cloned from the original unit to sync with the tractor's immobilizer and CAN bus.

  5. Clear fault codes

    After the physical repair, connect the SERDIA diagnostic software to the tractor and clear the fault codes (FC:00DE) from the engine control unit memory.
