4.1.04

Fendt 4.1.04 – Transmission Control Unit: B017 - Clutch pedal rotary position sensor (or potentiometer) — Signal fault

Issue description

This fault code indicates a signal failure or plausibility error from the clutch pedal position sensor. The system detects that the sensor is either faulty, sending an illogical signal (e.g., the turboclutch line does not open when the pedal is actuated), or has lost its 8.5V power supply. Consequences: The tractor will experience a loss of enhanced control functions. Final speed control is restricted, cruise control becomes unavailable, TMS (Tractor Management System) is switched off, and there is no monitoring of transmission ratios.

Check the cause

  1. Check the Fuse: Verify the 8.5V supply fuse (usually Micro fuse 8 on the A013 board or fuse 5 on some COM III models).

  2. Test Sensor Wiring: Turn the ignition 'ON' and check the connector at component B017 (Pin 1: Earth, Pin 2: + 8.5 VDC Supply, Pin 3: Signal).

  3. Check for Plausibility: Ensure there is no mechanical binding on the clutch pedal preventing it from returning to its default position, which can trigger a plausibility error.

Repair steps

  1. Access the Sensor

Remove the hatch cover at the top of the steering column, then remove the instrument panel to gain access to the B017 clutch pedal rotary position sensor.

  2. Test the Component

Connect a diagnostic adapter cable directly to component B017 to verify if the sensor itself has failed or if the wiring harness is the issue.

  3. Replace the Sensor

If the 8.5V supply is present but the signal is dead or erratic, remove the faulty B017 sensor and install the replacement.

  4. Calibrate the Sensor

After installing a new clutch pedal sensor, you must perform a calibration. Enter the tractor's diagnostic terminal and run Calibration Code 4001 (Calibration - clutch pedal sensor) to teach the transmission control unit the new sensor's end stops.
