Fendt 4.1.2D – Transmission Control Unit: Signal fault / Signal failure from the Rapid reversing control on the control stalk

The tractor detects a plausibility error or loss of signal from the quick reverse button (S014 or S061) located on the left side of the steering wheel/steering column adjustment lever. The rapid reverse function on the steering column becomes inoperable, but the system defaults to an auxiliary/emergency mode where rapid reversing is still possible via the main driving joystick.

   Verify the Symptom: Confirm that the tractor can still change directions using the joystick. If the joystick reverse also fails, the issue may lie deeper in the transmission control module rather than the stalk switch.

   Physical Inspection: Inspect the S014 / S061 switch (the control stalk on the left of the steering column) for physical damage, sticking buttons, or excessive play.

   Wiring & Connector Check: Remove the steering column cowling and inspect the wiring harness leading from the stalk switch to the main harness. Look for pinched wires, chafing, or loose/corroded connector pins.

   Circuit Testing: Consult the Transmission control electrical circuit diagram for your specific chassis. Test the switch for proper continuity when the Quick Reverse button is actuated. If the switch does not close the circuit or sends erratic resistance values, the stalk has failed internally.

   Prep the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Switch

   Remove the plastic covers/cowling surrounding the steering column to expose the base of the control stalk assembly.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector linking the steering column switch (S014/S061) to the tractor's main wiring harness.

   Remove the Stalk

   Unscrew the mounting bolts or retaining clips holding the stalk switch assembly to the steering column and slide the faulty unit out.

   Install the New Part

   Slide the replacement steering column switch into place and secure it with the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

7. 7

   Reassemble

   Reinstall the steering column covers.

8. 8

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and clear the stored fault codes via the tractor's terminal. Test the rapid reverse function on the new stalk to confirm the repair.
