Fendt 4.1.50 – Transmission Control Unit: S017 - "Transmission oil filter clogged" switch — Filter clogged

The S017 pressure switch has detected a restriction or blockage in the transmission oil filter. The system monitors hydraulic/transmission oil filter contamination as a function of the transmission oil temperature. The S017 switch function is only active when the transmission oil temperature is above 50°C (122°F).

   Verify Operating Temperature: Ensure the transmission oil temperature has reached at least 50°C, as the S017 switch will not accurately report filter status below this threshold.

   Inspect Oil Condition: Pull the transmission oil dipstick/gauge. If the oil appears dark, smells burnt, or shows visible metal contamination on a clean white cloth, the fluid itself is severely degraded and must be changed alongside the filter.

   Check for Related Codes: Look for code 4.1.56 (S017 Signal line fault / Faulty switch). If 4.1.56 is present, the issue is electrical rather than a physical filter blockage.

   Inspect Wiring: Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the S017 switch for corrosion, breaks, or loose connections.

   Replace the Transmission Oil Filter

   The most common and direct fix for this code is to replace the transmission oil filter. A blocked filter restricts oil flow and increases system pressure drop.

   Service the Transmission Fluid (If necessary)

   If the tractor is at its service interval (typically 1,500 hours for field use, or 1,000 hours for heavy haulage) or if the oil is degraded, drain and replace the transmission oil using approved Fendt Vario Fluid.

   Test the S017 Switch

   If the filter and oil are brand new and the 4.1.50 code persists once the tractor reaches 50°C, the S017 switch has likely failed internally and is giving a false restriction reading.

   Replace the S017 Switch

   Unplug the electrical connector, unthread the old S017 switch from the transmission filter housing/valve block, and install the new sensor.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Clear the fault codes from the terminal. Run the tractor under load until the transmission oil temperature exceeds 50°C to verify the code does not return.
