Fendt 4.1.70 – TRANSMISSION: A004 - 'Cruise control 1' key — Key fault
Issue description
Electrical signal failure, button malfunction, or CAN bus communication error originating from the 'Cruise Control 1' button located on the tractor's main operating console/joystick. As a direct safety consequence, the system locks out the feature, and Cruise Control cannot be activated.

Check the cause
Inspect the Cruise Control 1 button on the A004 Vario joystick for physical damage, sticking, or lack of a tactile click (indicating a collapsed microswitch)
Inspect the wiring harness exiting the A004 control console/armrest for pinched wires, chafing, or loose connector pins
Test the CAN bus lines between the A004 console and the Transmission Control Module for continuity and proper voltage
Verify that the A004 console is receiving proper voltage (check associated fuses and printed circuit board A013)
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during disassembly.
Access the Joystick
Carefully remove the housing/trim on the multifunction armrest to access the A004 Vario joystick assembly.
Repair Wiring
If diagnostic testing revealed a break in the bus communication line between the armrest and the transmission ECU, repair the damaged wire or replace the sub-harness.
Replace the Button/Switch
If the wiring is intact but the button has failed mechanically or electrically, disassemble the joystick handle to replace the specific microswitch/button pad.
Replace the A004 Console
If the internal circuit board of the joystick has failed and is not outputting the bus signal, unbolt the A004 joystick assembly, disconnect the main harness plug, and install a new OEM joystick.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use the Fendt diagnostic terminal to clear the 4.1.70 fault code. Test drive the tractor to ensure Cruise Control 1 activates properly.
