4.1.74

Fendt 4.1.74 – TRANSMISSION: Hand brake ON/OFF sensor' solenoid switch (Position sensor parking brake) — Signal fault / Signal failure

Issue description

The system cannot detect the position of the hand brake. As a result, the hand brake automatic mode is disabled, and the Tractor Management System (TMS) is switched off.

Check the cause

  1. Locate the S015 switch on the left side of the cab, directly on the hand brake lever assembly (requires removing side cover panels)

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and the X226 separation point/connector for cable breaks, short circuits, or corrosion

  3. Test the switch resistance with a multimeter: it should read 121 ohms when the hand brake is released (switch closed) and 510 ohms when applied (switch open)

  4. Check the mechanical adjustment of the switch to ensure it actuates exactly at the 2nd tooth of the hand brake lever's travel

Repair steps

  1. Secure tractor

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and chock the wheels (since you will be manipulating the parking brake).

  2. Remove cover panels

Remove the interior cover panels on the left side of the cab to expose the hand brake lever mechanism.

  3. Disconnect electrical connector

Disconnect the X226 electrical connector from the S015 hand brake switch.

  4. Remove faulty switch

If the switch failed the resistance test or is physically broken, unbolt the faulty switch from its mounting bracket.

  5. Install new switch

    Install the new S015 switch.

  6. Adjust switch position

Adjust the mounting position of the new switch so that it mechanically switches states exactly when the hand brake lever reaches the 2nd tooth of the ratchet mechanism.

  7. Reconnect wiring

    Reconnect the X226 wiring harness.

  8. Reinstall panels

    Reinstall the cab cover panels.

  9. Verify repair

Turn on the tractor and verify that the TMS system is active and the fault code has cleared (you may need to clear historical codes via the FENDIAS diagnostic tool).
