4.1.77

Fendt 4.1.77 – A034 / A100: A034 - Driving switch, CAN bus / Joystick acceleration ramp I...IV faulty.

Issue description

This code indicates a signal fault or internal electrical failure within the main driving switch (the Vario joystick). The system detects that the switches controlling the acceleration ramps (levels I through IV) are faulty or sending implausible signals over the CAN bus. The tractor will enter a restricted operating mode (emergency operation) where only acceleration rate III will be available.

Check the cause

  1. Connect the FENDIAS diagnostic program to interrogate the A034 drive switch directly and confirm the fault is isolated to the joystick rather than a broader CAN bus failure.

  2. Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the joystick (A034) and the enhanced control ECU (A002). Look for corroded pins, loose connections, or chafed wires.

  3. Check the joystick for physical damage, sticking buttons, or liquid ingress (e.g., spilled drinks in the cab shorting the internal circuit board).

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes on the CAN bus.

  2. Access the Module

Carefully remove the trim panels on the multifunction armrest to expose the base of the Vario joystick and its wiring harness.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the 4-pin CAN bus connector and any secondary harness connectors attached to the joystick base.

  4. Remove the Joystick

Unbolt the joystick assembly from the armrest console.

  5. Repair or Replace

Because the fault is usually a failed internal circuit board or microswitch, the joystick must either be replaced with a new OEM unit or sent to a specialized agricultural electronics repair center for a board-level rebuild.

  6. Reinstall

Install the new or repaired joystick, reconnect the CAN bus harnesses, and reassemble the armrest.

  7. Clear Codes & Calibrate

Reconnect the battery. Use the FENDIAS tool to clear the stored 4.1.77 fault code. Depending on the tractor model, perform a joystick teach-in/calibration procedure so the ECU recognizes the new module's parameters.
