Fendt 4.1.7E – EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) / EMR (Engine Control) module: Signal out of range or Signal fault from the hand throttle potentiometer (manual accelerator position sensor)

The system monitors the electrical current from the sensor to determine the hand throttle's position. If the signal falls outside the acceptable tolerances (typically below 2 mA or above 22 mA), the system registers a fault. When this fault is active, the Tractor Management System (TMS) is switched off until the next cold-start. The tractor enters a restricted operating mode (limp mode), the hand throttle and terminal settings are deactivated, and engine speed can only be controlled via the foot accelerator pedal (Sensor B029).

   Check the B035 sensor connector (X183) pinout (Pin 1: Earth, Pin 2: 5V Supply, Pin 3: Signal)

   Verify voltage supply at the side console and fuse board (A013), checking for intact fuses and wiring discontinuities (WF1491, WF1743)

   Measure potentiometer signal current on the side console (A004, Pin 30, Connector X033) - should be 16-22 mA at idle and 2-8 mA at full power

   Inspect the mechanical link from the hand throttle lever to the position sensor for binding or disconnection

   Monitor the live signal using the FENDIAS diagnostic tool for dropouts during lever travel

   Inspect Wiring and Connections

   Disconnect connector X183 at the B035 sensor. Clean the contacts and check for pushed-back pins, corrosion, or moisture.

   Test Harness Continuity

   Perform a continuity test on the signal wire (e.g., WF1722) between the B035 sensor and the A004 side console. Repair any breaks or shorts to ground/power.

   Adjust or Replace Sensor

   If the wiring is intact and the mechanical linkage is functioning properly, attempt to adjust the sensor so its output falls within the 2mA - 22mA range.

   Replace Component

   If adjustment cannot be performed or the sensor has an internal dead spot (signal drops out completely), replace the B035 hand throttle potentiometer.

   Clear Codes and Reset

   After replacing the sensor, clear the fault codes using FENDIAS. Perform a tractor cold-start (cycle the battery power/ignition completely off and back on) to restore TMS functionality.
