Fendt 4.1.84 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Plausibility error with the joystick switch contacts

Electrical signals coming from the joystick's directional and speed control switches do not match logically (e.g., the system is receiving conflicting speed or directional indications simultaneously). The tractor will typically restrict functionality, allowing continuation only in an emergency mode or Auxiliary Operation Mode, and cruise control/rapid reverse functions may be disabled.

   Use the Variotronic Ti terminal (A008) or FENDIAS diagnostic tool to open Diagnostics Menu 1 and monitor the 'IDEAL' value to see if inputs register correctly.

   Verify the 8.5V power supply to the joystick by checking fuse board A013 (specifically Fuse 5 or F047).

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the joystick (A003/A034) and the side console/transmission control unit for chafed wires, short circuits, or loose pins.

   Check the physical condition of the joystick buttons (V, R, VR, cruise control) for worn, sticking, or collapsed microswitches.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Joystick

   Remove the retaining screws and carefully lift the side console/armrest cover to expose the base of the joystick assembly.

   Disconnect the Harness

   Unplug the main electrical connector (e.g., X032_P) from the bottom of the joystick.

   Remove the Joystick

   Unbolt the joystick unit from its mounting bracket on the armrest.

   Repair or Replace

   If repairing: Disassemble the joystick housing to access the internal CAN circuit board and microswitches. Replace the faulty switches or install a joystick repair kit (new buttons/contacts). If replacing: Mount the new or professionally refurbished OEM joystick assembly into the armrest.

   Reassembly

   Secure the mounting bolts, reconnect the electrical harness, and reinstall the armrest covers.

   Calibration / EOL Programming

   Reconnect the battery. Depending on the tractor model and whether a completely new CAN joystick was installed, you may need to run a new EOL (End-Of-Line) programming or calibration using the FENDIAS dealer tool so the transmission ECU recognizes the new joystick.

   Test Drive

   Clear the fault codes and test the tractor to ensure forward/reverse, acceleration ramps, and cruise control operate without triggering code 4.1.84.
