Fendt 4.1.90 – A004 / A001: Cruise control 1 — Data communication fault

A CAN bus communication failure between the tractor's control console/multifunction armrest (A004) and the main electronic control unit (A001). The system cannot read the input from the cruise control button, resulting in 'Key not available / Automatic cruise control not available' and potentially defaulting to a transmission emergency mode.

   Check fuses F040 and F041 on the A013 printed circuit board for the CAN bus power supply.

   Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the A004 side console and the A001 ECU for chafed wires, pinched harnesses in the armrest pivot points, or loose connector pins.

   Check the terminal for related codes like 0.0.13 A004 or 0.0.14 A009, which indicate the entire bus is down rather than just the cruise control circuit.

   Ensure the Cruise Control 1 button on the joystick/multifunction armrest is not physically stuck, damaged, or contaminated with dirt or liquid.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Fuse Replacement

   Locate the A013 fuse board. Test fuses F040 and F041 with a multimeter. If blown, replace them and retest the system. If they blow again immediately, there is a short to ground in the console wiring.

   Harness Testing

   Disconnect the multi-pin connector at the A004 control console and the A001 ECU. Use a multimeter to test for continuity on the CAN-High and CAN-Low lines. Repair any breaks in the wiring.

   Clean Connections

   Apply electrical contact cleaner to the pins on the A004 and A001 connectors. Ensure no pins are pushed back into the plastic housing.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use the Fendt Variotronic Ti terminal or FENDIAS diagnostic software to clear the stored 4.1.90 fault code.

   Component Replacement

   If the wiring and fuses are perfectly intact but the code immediately returns, the A004 Control Console has likely suffered an internal failure and must be replaced. Note: Replacing the ECU (A001) or console may require EOL (End of Line) programming via FENDIAS to pair the new module to the tractor.
