4.1.A4

Fendt 4.1.A4 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): A009 - Transmission control unit — Fault or logical error in ECU signal

Issue description

This fault code indicates a signal failure, logical error, or missing track signal from the incremental encoder (position sensor) located inside the A009 Actuator Unit. When this signal is faulty or missing, the transmission cannot electronically verify its adjustment angle.

Applies to these machines

  • 409 Vario
  • 410 Vario
  • 411 Vario
  • 412 Vario
  • 711 Vario
  • 712 Vario
  • 714 Vario
  • 715 Vario
  • 716 Vario
  • 717 Vario
  • 718 Vario
  • 916 Vario
  • 920 Vario
  • 924 Vario
  • 926 Vario
  • 930 Vario
  • Farmer 400 Vario
  • Favorit 700 Vario
  • Favorit 900 Vario
  • 300 Vario (COM III)
  • 400, 700, 800, and 900 Vario (COM III & S4 generations)

Check the cause

  1. Verify the mechanical connection of the A009 actuator unit to the transmission actuator shaft. Ensure the neutral points for forward and reverse movement are not too far apart.

  2. Connect an adapter cable to the X037 separation point. Switch on the ignition and check the power supply to the electric motor. It must read between 12 to 14 VDC.

  3. Apply a load of approximately 55W to the circuit. The voltage drop must not exceed 1V; the voltage must remain stable.

  4. Check fuse F3 in the X1440 fuse board, which supplies power to the actuator.

  5. Check the G-BUS (Transmission CAN bus) wiring for breaks or short circuits between the A009 unit and the main ECU.

Repair steps

  1. Access the Actuator

Remove the right rear wheel and take off the protective metal panel to access the A009 actuator unit on the right side of the transmission.

  2. Disconnect Electricals

Disconnect the X037 separation point (electrical harness connector) from the actuator.

  3. Remove the Unit

Unbolt and remove the A009 actuator unit from the transmission housing.

  4. Inspect Internals

While the actuator is off, inspect the actuator shaft and connecting rod inside the transmission for excessive wear or binding.

  5. Install the New Unit

Fit the replacement A009 actuator unit and torque the mounting bolts to specification.

  6. Reassembly & Calibration

Reconnect the X037 connector, reinstall the metal panel, and mount the right rear wheel. Perform an End-Of-Line (EOL) reprogramming or terminal calibration via FENDIAS so the new actuator can learn its zero/reference position.
