Fendt 4.1.A5 – A009 Transmission Control Unit: Transmission control unit — Initial reference (=zero position) could not be reached during ignition 'ON'

The A009 Actuator Unit fails to find its initial reference point (the precise neutral/zero position between forward and reverse) during the automatic sweep when the ignition is switched 'ON'. The tractor will typically default to a restricted 'emergency mode' allowing limited auxiliary operation.

   Mechanical Binding: Check that the transmission adjustment is smooth using the emergency manual adjustment socket on the A009 unit to ensure the transmission actuator shaft is not mechanically seized.

   Actuator Connection: Verify the mechanical connection between the A009 actuator unit and the transmission actuator shaft.

   Electrical & CAN Bus: Inspect the wiring harness and connector (X037) at the A009 unit for corrosion, moisture, or broken pins. Check the G-Bus (Transmission Bus) terminating resistors and ensure the A013 microfuses supplying the transmission control unit are intact.

   Calibration / Teach-In: Attempt to clear the fault and run a transmission calibration (Teach-In) via the tractor's Variotronic terminal or FENDIAS diagnostic software.

   Access the Component

   Safely lift and support the tractor, remove the right rear wheel, and remove the protective metal panel to access the A009 actuator unit on the right side of the transmission housing.

   Disconnect

   Turn off the battery isolator switch. Disconnect the electrical separation point (connector X037) from the actuator unit.

   Removal

   Unbolt the A009 actuator unit from the transmission housing and carefully slide it off the splined transmission actuator shaft.

   Installation

   Clean the mating surface and the actuator shaft. Slide the new A009 actuator unit onto the shaft and torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect

   Plug in the X037 electrical connector and reinstall the protective metal panel and right rear wheel.

   EOL Programming / Calibration

   Turn the ignition ON. You must perform an End-Of-Line (EOL) programming or Teach-In calibration using FENDIAS or the tractor's diagnostic terminal to allow the ECU to learn the new actuator's precise neutral, maximum forward, and maximum reverse reference points.
