Fendt 4.1.B0 – Transmission ECU / Central Electrical System (A038): All bus consumers / users - Initialisation error — Restricted CAN-bus data communication

This code indicates an initialization error on the communication driver. The CAN bus communication is restricted, meaning the electronic control units on the network cannot properly transmit or receive data. The tractor will default to a 'Restricted operation' or emergency mode.

   Check the voltage level of CAN High and CAN Low (0 VDC indicates a short to ground, while 4 VDC or higher indicates a short circuit to power)

   Measure the CAN bus resistance using a multimeter between CAN High and CAN Low (a healthy bus shows around 60 ohms; 120 ohms or open circuit indicates a broken wire, open connector, or faulty terminating resistor)

   Verify the terminating resistor layout for your specific chassis number (older 900 Vario tractors up to chassis 9XX/2X/1701 have an additional 120 ohm resistor in the A038 ECU, bringing total resistance to 40 ohms)

   Inspect Wiring

   Visually inspect the main CAN bus wiring harness connecting the transmission ECU to the central electrical system and other bus consumers. Look for chafed wires, broken lines, or corroded D-Sub/Deutsch connectors.

   Clean Connections

   Disconnect the main ECU and CAN hub connectors. Apply contact spray to resolve any moisture or oxidation issues.

   Replace Terminating Resistor

   If the resistance check fails and wiring is intact, locate and replace the faulty CAN bus terminating resistor.

   ECU Testing

   If the wiring harness and terminating resistors are fully functional and the 4.1.B0 initialization error persists, the communication driver inside the ECU has failed. The ECU will need to be replaced or sent out for repair/cloning.

5. 5

   Clear Codes

   After repairs, connect the FENDIAS diagnostic tool to clear the fault codes and verify that full CAN communication has been restored.
