4.1.E5

Fendt 4.1.E5 – A002 - ECU, enhanced control: A002 - ECU, enhanced control. Checksum error for range control parameters.

Issue description

The tractor's control system has detected a checksum error in the EEPROM/EPROM memory regarding the parameters used for travel range shifting (Range I / II) and speed limiting, meaning stored calibration data or software parameters have become corrupted, mismatched, or lost.

Applies to these machines

  • 411 Vario COM III
  • 412 Vario COM III
  • 413 Vario COM III
  • 414 Vario COM III
  • 415 Vario COM III
  • 712 Vario COM III
  • 714 Vario COM III
  • 716 Vario COM III
  • 718 Vario COM III
  • 818 Vario COM III
  • 820 Vario COM III
  • 300 Vario Series
  • 400 Vario Series (409, 410, 411, 412)
  • 700 Vario Series (711, 712, 714, 716, 718)
  • 800 Vario Series (815, 817, 818)
  • 900 Vario Series (916, 920, 924, 926, 930)

Check the cause

  1. Verify Symptoms: Confirm that the tractor is unable to shift between Range I and Range II.

  2. Check for Accompanying Codes: Look for other A002 checksum errors (e.g., 4.1.E6 for load limit, 4.1.E7 for joystick) or EEPROM read/write errors (e.g., 9.1.A0 or 9.1.A1).

  3. Voltage Supply Check: Verify the power and ground supply to the A002 ECU to rule out low voltage drops or spikes.

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Connect the FENDIAS (Fendt diagnostic software) interface to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Perform EOL Programming

Perform EOL (End-Of-Line) programming to rewrite the range control parameters to the A002 ECU.

  3. Clear Codes

Once the EOL programming is complete and the checksums are recalculated by the software, clear the fault codes from the memory.

  4. Test Operation

Cycle the ignition and test the Range I / II shifting operation to ensure the parameters hold.

  5. ECU Repair/Replacement

If the FENDIAS system cannot write to the ECU, or if the 4.1.E5 code returns immediately after a power cycle, the EPROM/EEPROM chip inside the A002 ECU has physically failed. The ECU must be removed and either sent to a specialized agricultural electronics repair shop or replaced entirely.
