5.1.00

Fendt 5.1.00 – A002 - ECU, enhanced control: EEPROM checksum error

Issue description

The internal memory (EEPROM) of the enhanced control unit has failed a checksum validation. This indicates that the configuration data stored on the module is corrupted, drifted, or the physical memory chip inside the E-Box has suffered an internal hardware failure.

Check the cause

  1. Check for secondary codes: Verify if there are other CAN bus communication errors related to the A002 module (e.g., EDC/EMR bus faults) which might indicate a broader wiring or power supply issue to the E-Box.

  2. Power Cycle & Clear: Cycle the tractor's ignition to see if the checksum error is a transient glitch.

  3. Software Check: Prepare to attempt to rewrite the corrupted memory as the primary diagnostic step mandated by Fendt service documentation.

Repair steps

  1. Attempt EOL Programming

Connect the FENDIAS diagnostic tool and run a new EOL (End-Of-Line) programming sequence on the A002 ECU. This attempts to overwrite the corrupted EEPROM with fresh, correct configuration data.

  2. Evaluate E-Box Status

If the EOL programming is successful and the code clears, the tractor can be returned to service. If the EOL programming fails, or if the fault code immediately returns, the E-Box is deemed physically faulty.

  3. Remove the E-Box

Disconnect the battery and carefully remove the A002 E-Box from the tractor.

  4. Repair or Replace

Because the EEPROM chip is soldered to the internal board, the unit must either be sent to a specialized agricultural electronics repair center for board-level repair, or replaced entirely with a new/refurbished unit.

  5. Re-program

If a new or refurbished E-Box is installed, you must perform EOL programming via FENDIAS to configure the new module to the specific tractor's options and transmission calibration.
