Fendt 6.1.42 – Rear PTO Enhanced Control: S020 - Right external 'Rear PTO ON / OFF' pushbutton — Key pressed for more than 30 seconds.
Issue description
The system detects that the right rear mudguard/fender button used to engage or disengage the Power Take-Off (PTO) has been in a closed (pressed) state for over 30 continuous seconds. As a result, PTO speed selection moves to neutral, no preselection is possible, and the PTO cannot be engaged normally.

Check the cause
Inspect the S020 right external PTO button on the rear mudguard for physical jamming due to packed dirt, debris, or a broken internal return spring.
Perform an electrical continuity test on the switch by disconnecting the wiring harness. The circuit should only close when the button is actively pressed. Constant continuity indicates an internal short.
Inspect the wiring harness running from the right mudguard to the PTO control module for pinched wires, chafing, or melted insulation that could cause a short to ground or power.
Repair steps
Preparation
Turn off the tractor, remove the ignition key, and ensure the machine is parked safely.
Access the Switch
Locate the S020 PTO switch on the right rear mudguard. Clean the surrounding area thoroughly to prevent dirt from falling into the electrical connectors.
Removal
Reach behind the mudguard panel and disconnect the electrical plug from the switch. Squeeze the retaining tabs or remove the locking nut (depending on the exact model year) to push the switch out through the top of the mudguard.
Installation
Insert the new PTO command switch into the mudguard cutout until it clicks securely into place.
Reconnection
Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the electrical connector to prevent moisture ingress, then plug the harness back into the switch.
Testing
Turn the tractor on. The fault code may move to a "stored" state or clear automatically. Test the PTO engagement from the cab and from the newly installed external switch to verify that speed selection and engagement functions have been restored.
