6.1.56

Fendt 6.1.56 – A004 Control Console: 540 rpm speed selector key has been pressed for more than 30 seconds.

Issue description

This code indicates a mechanical or electrical fault in the 540 rpm PTO speed selector key. The system detects that the button is continuously closed (pressed) for over 30 seconds, which the computer flags as an error to prevent unintended continuous engagement commands. As long as the fault is active, the '540' rpm mode cannot be newly selected.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the 540 rpm PTO selector button on the A004 right-hand control console for dirt, sticky residue, or physical damage causing mechanical binding.

  2. Use a multimeter to test the switch continuity to determine if the switch is internally shorted (stuck closed) even when not physically depressed.

  3. Refer to the PTO circuit diagram to trace the wiring from the switch to the A004 board to rule out a short to ground in the wiring harness.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Clean the Console

Carefully clean the area around the 540 rpm selector key using a plastic-safe electronic contact cleaner or mild degreaser. Work the button up and down to free any mechanical binding.

  3. Access the A004 Console

If cleaning does not resolve the issue, remove the trim panel on the right mudguard inside the cab to access the A004 Control Console assembly.

  4. Test/Replace the Switch

Disconnect the keypad ribbon/wiring. If the 540 rpm switch is a replaceable modular switch, swap it out. If the switch is integrated into a sealed membrane keypad (common on Vario consoles), the entire A004 keypad/console module will need to be replaced.

  5. Reassembly

Install the new switch or console, reconnect the wiring harnesses, and reinstall the mudguard panel.

  6. Clear Codes & Test

Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use the FENDIAS diagnostic tool or the tractor's terminal to clear the stored 6.1.56 fault code. Test the PTO to ensure 540, 750, and 1000 rpm speeds can be selected normally.
