Fendt 6.1.B5 – A004 - ECU, control panel: Speed selector button NEUTRAL. Communication fault
Issue description
The system detects a signal or communication error with the Neutral PTO speed selection button, typically triggered if the button is pressed or physically stuck for more than 30 seconds. As a result, the PTO speed cannot be modified or selected, and the system may lock out the Neutral selection.

Check the cause
Inspect the Neutral speed selector button on the A004 control panel for physical binding, sticking, or debris.
Verify the CAN bus communication and voltage supply to the A004 control console by checking the A013 fuse board, specifically fuses F040 and F041.
Check the wiring harness and connectors (referencing circuit diagram 'PTO's' Sheet 32) between the A004 control panel and the enhanced control ECU (A002) for continuity, corrosion, or damage.
Test if other PTO speeds (540, 750, 1000) can be selected or if the entire PTO selection is locked out to isolate whether the issue is the single button or the entire A004 communication bus.
Repair steps
Power Down
Disconnect the tractor's battery before performing any electrical work or removing the console.
Free the Button
If the button is simply stuck due to dirt or a spilled beverage, carefully clean the area around the switch with electrical contact cleaner and ensure it moves freely.
Button Replacement
If mechanically broken and fused into the lower housing, carefully chisel or cut the old button out at the parting line. Install the new replacement button using a suitable plastic adhesive or superglue, ensuring the internal illumination function remains intact.
ECU Board Repair
If the fault is internal to the A004 ECU circuit board, remove the entire A004 control console and send it to a specialized agricultural electronics repair center for board-level repair.
Reassembly & Clearing Codes
Reinstall the console, reconnect the battery, and clear the fault codes using the FENDIAS diagnostic tool. Test the PTO neutral selection to confirm the repair.
