Fendt 7.1.02 – Front PTO Control System: S041 - 'Release front PTO brake' external pushbutton — Signal fault

The control unit is receiving an implausible, missing, or out-of-range electrical signal from the external switch used to release the front Power Take-Off (PTO) brake. This is typically caused by an open circuit, a short circuit to ground/power, or a mechanical failure where the button is stuck in the depressed position.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the S041 external pushbutton (located on the exterior near the front linkage/PTO) for physical damage, packed dirt, or signs that the button is mechanically stuck.

   Switch Continuity Test: Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test for proper continuity. The circuit should close when the button is pressed and open when released.

   Wiring & Connector Check: Inspect the wiring harness and the connector at the S041 switch for corrosion, moisture ingress, or chafing.

   Circuit Tracing: Consult the Fendt 'PTOs' circuit diagram to trace the signal line back to the A004 module/ECU. Test the wires for continuity, shorts to ground, or shorts to power.

   Live Data: If available, use the FENDIAS diagnostic tool to monitor the live state of the S041 switch to see if the ECU is registering the button presses.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the S041 'Release front PTO brake' pushbutton on the front exterior panel/grille area.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the back of the switch.

   Remove the Switch

   Depress the retaining clips or remove the locking nut holding the switch in the mounting panel, and pull the faulty switch out.

   Install the New Part

   Push the replacement switch into the mounting hole until it clicks securely into place.

   Reconnect

   Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the electrical connector to prevent future moisture ingress, then plug it into the new switch.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use the tractor's terminal or the FENDIAS tool to clear the stored 7.1.02 fault code.

   Test

   Test the external front PTO brake release function to verify the repair is successful.
