7.1.42

Fendt 7.1.42 – COMFORT FRONT PTO / FRONT PTO ENHANCED CONTROL: S041 "Release brake" key — Plausibility error, key has been pressed for more than 30 seconds.

Issue description

The control unit is receiving a continuous, uninterrupted signal from the S041 external pushbutton (the "Release front PTO brake" switch) for over 30 seconds. This typically indicates that the switch is mechanically stuck, internally shorted, or there is a short-to-power/ground in the wiring harness.

Check the cause

  1. Physically inspect the S041 'Release front PTO brake' external pushbutton to see if it is jammed, packed with mud/debris, or frozen in the depressed position.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading from the S041 switch to the control module for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched harnesses that could cause a short circuit.

  3. Disconnect the S041 switch from the harness and perform a continuity test. If the switch shows continuity (a closed circuit) without being pressed, it has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical damage.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around the S041 external pushbutton on the front PTO housing to prevent dirt from entering the electrical connections.

  3. Attempt to Free the Switch

If the switch is merely stuck due to agricultural debris, use contact cleaner and actuate the button repeatedly to see if it springs back into its normal resting position. If it frees up, retest the system.

  4. Remove the Faulty Switch

If the switch is internally shorted or permanently jammed, disconnect its electrical connector. Remove the retaining nut or mounting screws securing the switch to the housing and pull the switch out.

  5. Install the New Part

Insert the replacement S041 pushbutton into the mounting hole, secure the retaining hardware, and plug in the electrical connector. Ensure the weather seal/boot is intact.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

Reconnect the battery. Turn on the ignition and use the tractor's terminal (or the FENDIAS diagnostic tool) to clear the stored 7.1.42 fault code. Test the front PTO release brake function to verify the repair.
