8.3.12

Fendt 8.3.12 – A014 - ECU, EPC OBE: Lower final stage defective or Fault in signal line to valve

Issue description

This code indicates an electrical fault in the circuit controlling the 'Lower' function of the rear electrohydraulic power lift (EPC). The system has detected a fault in the signal line to the Y021 solenoid valve, a defective solenoid valve (e.g., magnet current too great), or an internal failure within the E-box/ECU (defective lower final stage). As a consequence, the control is terminated and locked, meaning no lowering of the rear power lift is possible.

Check the cause

  1. Check the signal line between the A014 ECU and the Y021 solenoid valve for a short circuit to earth (ground), a short circuit to +UB (battery voltage), or a break in the wiring.

  2. Test the Y021 solenoid valve ('Lower' function) for internal faults, such as a shorted coil causing excessive magnet current.

  3. Verify the A014 ECU for internal failure (lower final stage defective) if wiring and valve test within specification.

  4. If accompanied by bus faults ('Bus fault, no functions available'), check the CAN bus power supply on printed circuit board A013, specifically fuses F040 and F041.

Repair steps

  1. Access the Components

Locate the Y021 solenoid valve (Rear EPC 'Lower' function) on the hydraulic spool valve block.

  2. Test and Repair Wiring

Disconnect the harness at the Y021 valve and the A014 ECU. Use a multimeter to check for continuity, shorts to ground, and shorts to power. Repair any damaged wiring in the harness.

  3. Replace the Solenoid Valve

If the wiring is good, measure the resistance of the Y021 solenoid coil. If it is out of specification or shorted, replace the Y021 solenoid valve.

  4. Replace the ECU

If both the wiring and the solenoid valve are in perfect working order, the A014 ECU has suffered an internal hardware failure ('lower final stage defective') and must be replaced.

  5. Clear Codes

After repairs, turn the ignition on. Stored fault messages must be cancelled individually via the Vario terminal (press F3 to confirm/cancel the fault message). Note that cancelling the message will not clear it if the physical fault is still present.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Y021 Solenoid Valve

Rear EPC 'Lower' function solenoid valve (Bosch Rexroth / Fendt OEM)

  • A014 ECU, EPC OBE

Rear power lift electronic control unit (Bosch / Fendt OEM)

  • Fuses F040 / F041

Standard microfuses for circuit board A013 (only needed if a CAN power supply issue is also present)
