8.3.12

Fendt 8.3.12 – Rear EPC control module (E-box): Fault in the signal line to the solenoid valve responsible for the Rear EPC, 'Lower' function

Issue description

The tractor's system detects an electrical issue—such as a short circuit to earth, a short circuit to battery voltage (UB), or a break in the wiring—preventing the rear power lift from lowering. As a safety consequence, the electrohydraulic power lift control is terminated and locked.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness between the Rear EPC E-box and the Y021 solenoid valve for chafing, breaks, or pinched wires.

  2. Check the main connectors (such as the yellow plug) for poor contact, dirt, or corrosion.

  3. Test the lower solenoid valve (Y021) for internal faults or a short circuit.

  4. Evaluate the E-box for internal failure if the wiring and valve are intact.

Repair steps

  1. Access the Components

Locate the Y021 solenoid valve on the rear hydraulic spool block and the Rear EPC E-box (usually located in the cab console/electronics bay).

  2. Clean and Re-seat Connections

Disconnect the plugs at the valve and the E-box. Clean the pins thoroughly with contact spray and reassemble to rule out a simple bad connection.

  3. Continuity Testing

Use a multimeter to perform a continuity and resistance test on the signal line from the E-box to the Y021 valve. Repair any broken or shorted wires found in the harness.

  4. Valve Replacement

If the wiring is good but the Y021 solenoid valve fails a resistance test, replace the solenoid valve.

  5. E-box Repair/Replacement

If both the wiring and the valve are functioning correctly, the E-box is faulty. Remove the E-box and either replace it with a new/remanufactured unit or send it to a specialized agricultural electronics repair service (such as Ilgenfritz Mechatronics) for internal board repair.

  6. Clear Codes

After repair, use the tractor's terminal to clear the stored fault codes from the memory and test the rear linkage 'Lower' function.
