9.1.59

Fendt 9.1.59 – ECU, enhanced control (A002): Spool valve fault — Main piston cannot return to neutral position when switched on because of oil contamination

Issue description

The valve slide/main piston is jamming due to dirt or debris in the hydraulic oil. Because the piston cannot return to its neutral position, the valve attempts to move into neutral but fails, which can lead to undefined and uncontrolled hydraulic functions.

Check the cause

  1. Identify the affected valve (usually Y019 for Front Power Lift, or Spool Valves 1-4 depending on the sub-code).

  2. Perform a manual actuation test on the spool valve to ensure there is no play and the slider returns to the neutral position entirely by itself.

  3. Inspect the hydraulic fluid for visible dirt, metal shavings, or severe degradation that could cause the piston to jam.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Ensure the tractor is turned off and all hydraulic pressure is relieved from the system before servicing the valves.

  2. Drain Hydraulic Fluid

Drain the contaminated hydraulic oil from the system to prevent further damage to other hydraulic components.

  3. Remove the Spool Valve

Locate the Y019 auxiliary control valve (Front Power Lift) or the specific rear spool valve indicated by the sub-code. Disconnect the electrical harness (connector X330) and hydraulic lines, then remove the valve assembly.

  4. Clean or Replace

Depending on the severity of the scoring on the main piston, the valve must either be thoroughly disassembled and cleaned by a hydraulic specialist, or replaced entirely. If the slide is permanently jammed or scored, replacement is mandatory.

  5. Replace Filters

Replace all hydraulic oil filters to ensure no residual contamination remains in the system.

  6. Refill Fluid

Refill the system with clean, approved hydraulic fluid. Fendt specifies STOU SAE 5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-30, 10W-40, 15W-30, 15W-40, or Fendt Super Hyd / Extra Hyd 68.

  7. Calibrate

Once reassembled, the position sensors for the spool valves may need to be recalibrated using the FENDIAS diagnostic tool or the tractor's EOL (End of Line) programming.
