Fendt A.1.57 – A057 - ECU, steering controller (Auto-Guide): EEPROM contains invalid data
Issue description
The EEPROM is the non-volatile memory inside the controller that stores essential operating parameters and calibration data. When this data becomes corrupted or invalid, the Auto-Guide steering system cannot function safely or correctly.

Check the cause
Verify the Code: Confirm the active fault code on the tractor's terminal. Look for accompanying A057 codes (such as A.1.55 or A.1.56, which indicate EEPROM reading or description faults).
Software Communication Check: Connect the FENDIAS diagnostic tool to the tractor and test communication with the A057 steering controller.
Assess Programmability: Determine if the module will accept a flash/reprogram (End-Of-Line programming).
Repair steps
Attempt EOL Programming
Using the FENDIAS diagnostic software, initiate EOL programming for the A057 steering controller to rewrite the EEPROM with a valid data set.
Calibrate
If the module accepts the programming, clear the fault codes and perform a steering calibration test to ensure the Auto-Guide system steers correctly without drifting.
Hardware Replacement/Repair
If the EOL programming fails, or if the EEPROM cannot be read/written to (as noted in the service manual: "If there is no remedy, replace box"), the internal memory chip is physically defective.
Remove the ECU
Disconnect the battery, locate the A057 steering controller, and remove it from the machine.
Install New or Repaired ECU
You can either send the defective unit to a specialized agricultural electronics repair center (such as Ilgenfritz Mechatronics, which services these specific A057 modules) or install a new OEM replacement.
Final Calibration
If a new or repaired module is installed, you must perform EOL programming and calibration on the new unit before returning the tractor to the field.
