A.1.6B

Fendt A.1.6B – A050 - ECU, basic control unit / A057 - ECU, steering controller (Auto-Guide): Steering actuator cannot reach neutral

Issue description

The steering actuator cannot reach neutral during operation, triggered by a mechanical fault on the steering actuator or a failure of the internal position sensor.

Applies to these machines

  • 411 Vario COM III
  • 412 Vario COM III
  • 413 Vario COM III
  • 414 Vario COM III
  • 415 Vario COM III
  • 712 Vario COM III
  • 714 Vario COM III
  • 716 Vario COM III
  • 718 Vario COM III
  • 818 Vario COM III
  • 820 Vario COM III
  • Fendt 200 Vario V / F / P
  • Fendt 300 Vario (COM III)
  • Fendt 400 Vario (COM III)
  • Fendt 700 Vario (COM III, SCR)
  • Fendt 800 Vario (COM III, SCR)
  • Fendt 900 Vario (COM III, SCR, S4)

Check the cause

  1. Verify if the steering actuator is mechanically binding or stuck, preventing it from returning to the neutral position.

  2. Check the wiring of the position sensor on the steering valve block (Y087) for breaks or short circuits.

  3. Verify the electrical supply line to the steering valve (voltage should be between 10V and 32V).

  4. Attempt to recalibrate the Auto-Guide steering valve using the tractor's terminal, as it may simply be out of calibration.

Repair steps

  1. Center the Steering

Bring the steering wheel to the center position and ensure the front wheels are pointing exactly straight ahead. Apply the handbrake.

  2. Run Calibration Code 2403

Access the terminal's 'Setting and Calibrating' menu for the Overall System / Tractor. Enter calibration/adjustment code 2403 and start the calibration process. Do not touch the steering wheel and do not leave the driver's seat. If successful, 'OK' will appear; turn the ignition key to '0' and wait at least 15 seconds before turning it back on.

  3. Address Mechanical Failures

If the calibration fails (displays 'ERROR') or the A.1.6B code immediately returns during operation, the mechanical fault is hard-set.

  4. Replace the Valve Block

Disconnect the hydraulic lines and the CAN-bus electrical connectors from the Y087 steering valve block. Remove the defective valve block and install the replacement unit.

  5. Post-Repair Calibration

After installing a new steering valve block, rerun calibration code 2403 to teach the new valve to the tractor's ECU.
