Fendt A.1.B5 – Spool Valves Operation: Crossgate lever "Rest position" signal fault
Issue description
The fault indicates a plausibility check failure where the zero position signals of the X- and Y-axes on the joystick are not identical to the dedicated "Rest position" signal. This conflicting information prevents the hydraulic spool valves from being operated.

Check the cause
Operator Error Check: Ensure the operator is not resting their hand on the crossgate lever when turning the ignition key. Turn the tractor off, ensure the lever is completely untouched and centered, and turn the ignition back on to see if the code clears.
Physical Inspection: Check the crossgate lever for physical binding, dirt, or debris. Ensure it springs back smoothly and completely to the exact center (rest) position from all directions.
Wiring and Connection Check: Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the crossgate lever (A034) and the multifunction armrest/ECU for pinched wires, damaged pins, or loose connections.
Diagnostic Tool (FENDIAS): If available, use the FENDIAS diagnostic tool to monitor the live data of the X-axis, Y-axis, and the rest position switch to identify which sensor is dropping out or reading incorrectly.
Repair steps
Power down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery if you are opening the armrest console.
Access the component
Disassemble the top plastics of the multifunction armrest to access the base of the crossgate lever.
Inspect and clean connections
Disconnect the electrical plug for the crossgate lever. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. Reconnect and test.
Replace the joystick
If the internal foil buttons, potentiometers, or Hall sensors have failed (causing partial dropouts or rest position faults), the crossgate lever assembly must be removed and replaced or sent out for specialized repair.
Calibrate the new lever
After installing a new or repaired crossgate lever, perform a calibration procedure (Calibration code '1001') using the tractor's terminal to teach the ECU the new lever's exact zero and maximum travel positions to clear the 'Not calibrated' code (A.1.B0).
