FiatAgri 5 – ECM: Injection Pump Fault
Issue description
The fault code indicates an issue related to the injection pump. While the exact failure mode is not specified by the code itself, it typically points to fuel supply and pressure issues, mechanical seizure of internal components, electronic driver/solenoid failure, or metering valve faults. These conditions prevent the pump from delivering the required fuel pressure, leading to engine stalling, low power, or a no-start condition.

Check the cause
Check for other active or stored fault codes in the ECM using a diagnostic scanner to pinpoint specific sensor or circuit issues
Verify fuel supply by ensuring the tank has clean diesel and inspecting primary and secondary fuel filters
Check the hidden gauze filter located in the banjo bolt at the injection pump's fuel inlet for blockages
Look for air bubbles in the fuel lines (using a clear section of tubing if necessary) to diagnose air leaks from cracked lines or poor seals
Bleed the fuel system of all air using the hand primer pump and cracking injector lines during cranking
Check lift pump function by disconnecting the fuel line to the injection pump and operating the hand primer or cranking the engine to ensure steady fuel flow
Inspect all electrical wiring harnesses and connectors to the injection pump, fuel rail pressure sensor, and injectors for damage, corrosion, or loose connections
Repair steps
Prepare for removal
Thoroughly clean the area around the injection pump to prevent contamination. Disconnect the battery, all fuel lines, electrical connectors, and throttle linkages.
Set engine timing
Crucially, set the engine to Top Dead Center (TDC) on the compression stroke for cylinder #1. Ensure the pump's timing marks are aligned before removal to allow for correct installation.
Remove injection pump
Unbolt the injection pump from its mounting flange and carefully remove it from the engine.
Repair or replace pump
Have the mechanical pump rebuilt by a specialized shop (replacing seals, plungers, and barrels), repair the electronic pump driver (PSG) if applicable, or replace the entire unit with a new or remanufactured pump.
Install and time new pump
With the engine still at TDC, mount the new or rebuilt pump and align the timing marks. Reconnect all lines, linkages, and electrical connections.
Bleed system and test
Thoroughly bleed the entire fuel system from filters to injectors. Start the engine, check for leaks, and fine-tune the timing if necessary.
