Iveco 013A – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Management System (EDC): Malfunction of oil temperature sensor circuit

The engine control system has detected an electrical issue—such as an open circuit, short circuit, or out-of-range signal—originating from the oil temperature sensor or its wiring harness.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the oil temperature sensor for chafing, breaks, or melted insulation

   Disconnect the sensor and check the pins for corrosion, moisture, or poor terminal tension

   Test the reference ground and signal wires back to the ECU (e.g., ECU Connector X-9002, Pin 59)

   Measure the internal resistance of the oil temperature sensor with a multimeter to check for an internal short or open circuit

   Disconnect battery

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the vehicle's battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate sensor

   Locate the oil temperature sensor on the engine block/oil pan.

   Disconnect harness

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the sensor.

   Repair wiring

   If diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring, repair the harness or replace the connector pigtail.

   Replace sensor

   If the wiring is intact but the sensor failed the resistance test, unthread the faulty oil temperature sensor and install the replacement part.

   Reconnect harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

   Clear fault code

   Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use an OBD/Iveco diagnostic tool to clear the 013A fault code from the Engine ECU.

   Verify repair

   Run the engine and verify that the code does not return and that oil temperature readings are accurate on the live data stream.
