Iveco 013E – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: Low level signal in the coolant pressure sensor circuit
Issue description
The engine control module is receiving a voltage signal from the coolant pressure sensor that falls below the minimum expected threshold. This condition is typically caused by a failed sensor, a short/open in the sensor wiring circuit, or an actual drop in engine coolant pressure.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Iveco Daily
- Iveco Stralis
- Iveco Eurocargo
- Morelo
Check the cause
Verify physical coolant level is correct and inspect for burst pipes or external leaks (such as hoses routed near the exhaust).
Perform the 'Capillary Action' wiring check: Unplug the coolant pressure sensor and inspect the inside of the electrical plug. If damp or wet with coolant, the sensor has failed internally and coolant may travel down the wiring loom into the EDC.
Repair steps
Locate the Sensor
On the Iveco Daily, the coolant pressure sensor is screwed directly into the plastic coolant header tank / expansion tank (often located near the top of the dashboard by the windscreen).
Disconnect the Battery
Always disconnect the battery before working on EDC sensors to prevent electrical spikes.
Remove the Electrical Connector
Unplug the sensor. If the plug is wet with coolant, thoroughly dry the connector. (Some technicians recommend temporarily removing the yellow weather seal from the connector to allow any residual moisture in the loom to evaporate).
Extract the Old Sensor
Carefully unscrew the sensor from the plastic header tank. Do not use excessive force, or you will crack the header tank. If it is stuck, apply penetrating oil or a small amount of brake fluid around the rubber O-ring to help degrade the seal and release the threads.
Install the New Sensor
Thread the new OEM sensor into the header tank.
Reassembly and Clearing Codes
Reconnect the wiring harness. Top up the coolant if any was lost, bleed the system, and use an Iveco-compatible OBD diagnostic tool to clear the EDC fault codes.
