0152

Iveco 0152 – EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): High pressure fuel rail

Issue description

A malfunction within the common rail fuel system where the electronic control system detects that the fuel pressure in the rail is abnormally high or there is a circuit malfunction related to the fuel rail pressure sensor.

Applies to these machines

  • Iveco Daily
  • Iveco Stralis
  • Iveco EuroCargo
  • Ford Cargo
  • Iveco Massif
  • Iveco FPT Industrial Engines

Check the cause

  1. Scan and Verify: Use a compatible OBD-II scanner or the Iveco AST to confirm code 0152 is active and check for any secondary codes (like 0151 for high signal level or 0154 for pressure above maximum).

  2. Wiring and Connector Inspection: Check the wiring harness and connectors between the fuel rail pressure sensor and the EDC/Engine-ECU. Specifically, look for short circuits, corrosion, or damaged pins on the HFPS and HFPG lines.

  3. Fuel Filter Check: Inspect the fuel filter. A heavily contaminated or clogged fuel filter can cause erratic fuel pressure readings and injection timing faults.

  4. Fuel Pressure Regulator Test: Check the fuel pressure regulator. If the internal diaphragm is stuck, it will cause excessive pressure build-up.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the vehicle's battery negative terminal before working on the high-pressure fuel system to prevent electrical shorts and ensure safety.

  2. Relieve Fuel Pressure

Ensure the engine has been off for an adequate amount of time to allow the high-pressure fuel system to depressurize.

  3. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks revealed a short circuit or broken wire between the EDC and the pressure sensor, repair the wiring harness or replace the damaged connector.

  4. Replace the Fuel Pressure Sensor / Fuel Rail

If the wiring is intact but the sensor is sending faulty high-voltage readings, the sensor must be replaced. On many Iveco models, the pressure sensor is pre-installed into the common rail assembly, and the entire fuel rail is replaced as a single unit.

  5. Replace the Fuel Pressure Regulator

If the sensor is reading correctly but the physical pressure is actually too high, replace the fuel pressure regulator.

  6. Reassemble and Prime

Install the new components, torque all high-pressure fuel lines to OEM specifications, and reconnect the battery. Prime the fuel system.

  7. Clear Codes

Connect the diagnostic scanner, clear the EDC fault codes from the ECU memory, and test drive the vehicle to ensure the EDC warning light remains off and the vehicle does not enter limp mode.
