Iveco 015E – Engine ECU / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Incorrect fuel injection time for cylinder injector 5
Issue description
The engine control module has detected that the timing, duration, or electrical response of the fuel injection event for the #5 cylinder is outside of expected parameters. This condition is typically caused by a mechanically failing injector, a wiring harness issue, or a localized loss of fuel pressure.

Check the cause
Scan for Accompanying Codes: Check the EDC for other codes. If fuel rail pressure codes (e.g., 0136, 0151-0155) are present, the issue may be the high-pressure pump or fuel pressure regulator rather than the injector itself.
Wiring Harness Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to injector #5. A known issue on FPT/Iveco engines is pin damage or chafing where the wiring harness plugs into the valve cover gasket pass-through.
Injector Leak-Off (Back-Leak) Test: Measure the return fuel volume from the injectors. If injector 5 is returning significantly more fuel than the others, its internal valves are worn and it must be replaced.
Cylinder Contribution Test: Use an Iveco/FPT diagnostic scan tool to run a cylinder balance test to confirm cylinder 5 is underperforming.
Repair steps
Preparation
Disconnect the battery. Remove the engine acoustic cover and any intake piping obstructing access to the fuel rail and cylinder 5.
Disconnect Lines
Unplug the electrical connector from injector 5. Remove the back-leakage (return) line retaining clip and pull the return line off the injector.
Remove High-Pressure Pipe
Loosen the union nuts and remove the high-pressure fuel line connecting the common rail to injector 5. Immediately cap all exposed ports on the rail and injector to prevent dirt ingress.
Extract the Injector
Remove the injector retaining clamp/bolt. Carefully pull the injector out of the cylinder head. Note: If the injector is seized due to carbon build-up, a specialized slide hammer or injector puller tool will be required.
Clean the Bore
Thoroughly clean the injector bore and the seating surface at the bottom. If the seat is pitted from carbon blow-by, it must be re-faced using an injector seat cutter.
Install New Injector
Always install the new injector with a brand-new copper crush washer and new rubber O-rings. Never reuse old seals.
Reassembly
Insert the injector, fit the retaining clamp, and torque the hold-down bolt to OEM specifications. Reconnect the high-pressure line (torque to spec), the return line, and the electrical connector.
Bleed the System
Leave the high-pressure line slightly loose at the injector inlet. Crank the engine until pure diesel fuel pushes out the trapped air, then tighten the fitting. This prevents dry-running the high-pressure pump.
ECU Coding
Using a diagnostic scan tool, enter the new injector's IMA/correction code (printed on the top of the new injector) into the EDC so the module can adjust the fueling parameters for the new part.
Final Test
Start the engine, check for fuel leaks, and clear the 015E fault code.
